Mission - Who We Serve - Types of Training

The Pacific AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California provides HIV and AIDS education and training to healthcare professionals. The Pacific AETC at USC provides education and training throughout Los Angeles and Southern California, but will respond to requests from outside the region including requests for international training.

Education and training programs are designed to keep busy providers up-to-date with the latest in HIV/AIDS treatment. Whether you have two HIV-positive patients or a practice dedicated to them, Pacific AETC trainings can help.


Mission

• To provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skill necessary to care for HIV infected patients

• To increase the number of trained healthcare professionals caring for patients living with HIV in the community

• To give healthcare professionals the skills to educate and counsel their patients to prevent the transmission of HIV

• To respond to the needs of emerging populations and the changing face of the epidemic.

We offer education and training programs specifically designed for:

• Physicians
• Nurses
• Physician Assistants
• Nurse Practitioners
• Dentists
• Dental Hygienists
• Pharmacists
• Other health professionals providing direct service to people with HIV/AIDS

• Conferences, Rounds, and Lectures
  Building basic knowledge and skills and providing updates on HIV/AIDS

• Seminars and Skill-development Workshops
  Developing specific skills related to HIV prevention and care, including:
  • HIV risk assessment and prevention
  • HIV test counseling
  • Secondary prevention of HIV
  • Medication Adherence

• Clinical Training
  Increasing clinical competence in assessing and caring for patients, presented through:
  • Clinical Training rotations
  • Preceptorships
  • Mini-residencies

• Consultative Training
  Working with providers to increase clinical competence through intensive on-site consultation training and through telephone consultation with providers.

• Technical Assistance and Capacity-Building
  Working with agencies and clinics to assist them with technical assistance, or to help them develop and build capacity to care for HIV-infected patients.
